Is Countra hard to use?+
Not at all. Countra was designed to feel familiar, especially for teams used to pen and paper. Most clinics are up and running in under an hour, with minimal training. If you can fill out a form on a tablet, you can use Countra.
Do I need special hardware?+
No new hardware is required. Countra works with devices you already have. Clinics can use a smartphone, tablet, desktop or laptop for logging and a web-based dashboard for administrative access. There is no expensive hardware or complicated setup.
Does the AI-assisted monitoring work for a solo practice?+
Level 1 recordkeeping is built for every clinic, including a solo practitioner: digital records, reconciliation, witnessed waste, and inspection-ready reports. The per-provider monitoring works by comparing providers against one another, so it becomes useful the moment you have a second provider handling controlled substances. If you grow, it is already there.
We have more than one location. Does Countra support that?+
Yes. Countra supports multi-location facilities in one account, and switching from one facility to another takes a moment. Each location keeps its own controlled-substance records, so the site an inspector asks about is the site you pull up.
How do I transfer existing logbook info?+
We will walk you through it. During onboarding, your team will do a quick inventory count to establish a starting point. From there, everything is digital. No manual data entry, just a clean switch from paper to the Countra platform.
What happens if I lose the internet?+
Countra requires internet connectivity to function, just like many modern systems. If your Wi-Fi ever goes down, you can temporarily switch back to a paper log and update the system later. Internet outages are rare, and we are here to support you if they happen.
How does Countra handle HIPAA and data security?+
Countra is built to support HIPAA safeguards. Your records are protected by encryption and strict access controls to help keep patient data safe and secure.
How does Countra keep records tamper-evident?+
Countra locks each entry once it is recorded, so the record stays tamper-evident. If a correction is ever needed, it is captured as a new time-stamped entry, so the original is never erased and the full history stays intact. It works like a digital chain of custody: every action is traceable and time-stamped, so you can trust the record and stay ready for an audit.
Does Countra make my clinic DEA compliant?+
No. Compliance with the Controlled Substances Act and DEA recordkeeping rules is the registrant's own responsibility, and no software can take it over. Countra supports those obligations by helping you document, track, and reconcile controlled substances and keep audit-ready records, but it does not make a facility DEA compliant, does not file your DEA forms, and does not prevent or guarantee the detection of diversion.
